Abstract

Axisymmetric Newtonian flow is considered through an entrance geometry which mimics a variety of specific flow configurations such as injection moulds, hydrostatic thrust bearings and radial flow reactors. This flow field is governed by two dimensionless parameters: the Reynolds number and the geometrical aspect ratio. The complete Navier-Stokes equations cast in the stream function-vorticity formulation are solved via an implicit finite-difference scheme, and results are presented for a range of Reynolds numbers and aspect ratios.
