Abstract

Elliott Earls is the Designer-in-Residence of the 2D Design department at Cranbrook Academy of Art (Bloomfield Hills, MI). His work balances traditional client-driven and experimental graphic design. His most recent project, Studio Practice, is a YouTube series in which Earls invites viewers into his normally private studio. In this interview with Meaghan Barry, Earls shares his thoughts on expanding the definition of graphic design, the challenges of daily design practice, and what qualifies as historically significant graphic design.
