Abstract

R-matrix Floquet theory is used to study simultaneous electron-photon excitation of helium in a CO2 laser field at intensities between 107 and 108 W cm−2, for collision energies near the 1s2ℓ excitation thresholds. The results are compared with those of two simple approximations as well as with experiment.
