Abstract

We are endeavouring to understand the part played by royal officers at the time of the « war of the cities » in 1562. For a long time, the case of Antoine Dorsanne, a general lieutenant at Issoudun, has heen presented by hostoriographers as an examplar pattern of the officers commitment by the side of the reformers. A close survey of the historical sources leads us to establish that his belonging to a very exclusive family network weighed very heavily on his commitments. As early as 1563, the officers opted for allegiance to the Crown.
