Abstract

The expressions for the elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections in the collision of odd-A deformed projectiles on spherical nuclei are derived in the adiabatic model. It is shown that the calculation of quasielastic (elastic+inelastic) cross sections are greatly simplified in this model and a similar simplicity is obtained for the quasielastic analysing powers. The model is applied to the scattering of polarised 23Na ions on 208Pb and predictions are made for the elastic and inelastic scattering cross section and their corresponding analysing powers.
