Abstract

We study the S = 1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet with single-ion anisotropy in the hexagonal latticeusing the bond-operator theory. The quantum phase transition from the spinsinglet state to the ordered one and the field-induced long-range order inthe perpendicular plane are shown to be described by the condensationof magnons. The results are compared with those from experiments usingAFeX3 (A = Cs, Rb andX = Cl, Br). The criticalexponent α nearHc1 is found to beabout 1.144 in CsFeCl3 and 1.599 in CsFeBr3, which provides another route to study the dimensional crossover behavior inlow-dimensional spin systems.
