Abstract
The quantum integrability of the one-dimensional Bariev chain is studied. This is achieved by identifying a one-parameter family of transfer matrices commuting with the Hamiltonian of the model. Further, the commutativity of the transfer matrices for different values of the spectral parameter follows from the fact that the quantum R matrix does exist for the model under consideration.
