Abstract

Within the framework of ordinary quantum mechanics a very graphic description of atoms and of radiative processes can be made. Upon examination of the probability current-density distribution, the atom is seen to be a dynamic entity. Selection rules can be made understandable by studying the temporal behavior of the charge distribution during the transition from one stationary state to another.
