Abstract

We present a calculation of the semihadronic decay rate of the τ-lepton in the framework of quantum chromodynamics. Making conservative assumptions on the nature of the τ and using a value of Λ = 0.5 GeV for the strong interaction scale parameter as determined from other sources we find for the leptonic branching ratio the theoretical estimate Γ(τ→v τ e v e ) Γ(τ→ all) = 0.148 ± 0.015 .
