Abstract

This paper presents a discussion of quantitative sensitivity based on qualitative sensitivity and qualitative detection limits, and includes comments upon those factors which contribute to increased working curve slope, decreased noise level, improved precision, and avoidance of curvature of the working curve at high concentration levels. These factors are considered fundamental for increasing sensitivity in quantitative analytical determinations by atomic-absorption flame photometry. An explanation is included of how the different factors were studied in the authors' laboratories, with the addition of some new instrumental features. Tables of sensitivities in terms of concentration limits (percentual and fluctuational) for some elements are given, as well as the corresponding quantitative values.
