Abstract

It has been found that Feulgen staining of the macronuclei of Tetrahymena pyriformis cells, treated with iron after fixation or grown in the presence of high iron concentrations, was depressed from 32 to 46 per cent of that of control cells. Biochemical DNA analyses on aliquots of the same cell populations showed no significant differences in the amount of DNA per cell.
