Abstract
It is found a quantitative relation between the microstructure (ferrite percentage) of castings of pieces of the “Nippel' 1 1/4"” type made of KCh-30-6 malleable cast iron and the records of a device called “Magnetic analyzer of the product structure quality Maksi-PM” which is used at the Minsk Heating Installation Works for the machine testing of machinability of castings. The thresholds of the readings necessary for presorting the nipple castings into suitable for the mechanical operation, conventionally suitable (for operation at reduced cutting rates), and defective are refined. The possible reasons of violation of the casting structure in the stable manufacturing process are analyzed.
