Abstract
Background and Aims: Intimal thickening is a key process in the development of atherosclerosis occurring gradually with aging. Preliminary findings suggest that very-high resolution ultrasound (VHRU, 55 MHz) could assess arterial intima thickness (IT) non-invasively in vivo. The aim was to validate ultrasound derived IT measurements in comparison with histology, and to describe a distinct four-line pattern consistent with intimal thickening in the ultrasound image.
