When Leprosy Blooms... Body and Writing in Jean Bodel's and Baude Fastoul's Congés. Both these poets left the world for leper-houses, writing farewells similar to those of poets — Hélinand de Froidmont, Adam de la Halle — leaving for a spiritual retreat or for study, but with the added dimension of a careful linguistic exploration of the link between bodily dégénérescence and renewal of the heart and soul — in last words.
