Abstract

Different services in over NGN have different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, therefore crucial part of the NGN is QoS provision with aim to provide desired level of QoS for certain services as well as certain Quality of Experience (QoE) from the end user's point of view. This chapter describes QoS solution in NGN based the QoS framework from ITU‐T. Further, it defines Resource and Admission Control Function (RACF) as central entity for performing QoS policy enforcing and admission control by serving as arbitrator between the NGN service stratum and NGN transport stratum. The chapter also describes QoS in Ethernet‐based NGN, flow‐state‐aware transport which is required for QoS support, as well as management of performance management in NGN. Finally, it covers NGN architecture for MPLS‐based core networks.
