Abstract

X-ray measurements were made at room temperature for lattice parameter determination of silver-rich Ag - 24.3 at. % Cd alloy quenched from different temperatures. Two sets of measurements were carried out on specimens that had received the same initial heat treatment and cooling. In one set, the effect of vacancy induced ordering, occurring during quenching, on the lattice parameter was examined. In the other set, the lattice parameter of the specimen furnace cooled from the quenching temperature was measured, which exhibits the order characteristic of the annealed state. The two sets of data served as the basis for study of the effect of degree of order on lattice parameter.
