Abstract

Objective To understand the status quo of professional experience of undergraduate nurses so as to provide a reference for the hospital administrators to stabilize the highly educated nursing personnel. Methods From October to December 2016, 12 clinical nurses with initial undergraduate degree from 4 Class Ⅲ Grade A hospitals in Guangzhou were selected as the research objects by purposive sampling method. They received an in-depth interview. We used the 7 step analysis method of Colaizzi phenomenology to analyze the data. Results Totally 3 themes were extracted: the advantages of educational background cannot be reflected with loss of value; the social status was low with sense of loss; Lack of experience and sense of achievement. Conclusions Hospital administrators should pay attention to the professional emotional state of nurses with undergraduate degree, strengthen organizational support, provide career planning guidance, meet their career growth needs, so as to stabilize the nurses with high academic degrees, and improve the quality of nursing service.
