Abstract

Wireless access networks are evolving towards mobile multimedia support with QoS (quality of service) provision. While this trend is clearly seen, a relation into the fixed network evolution and the second generation wireless systems has to be kept in mind. This paper gives an overview on application demand for the new mobile multimedia services and fixed network evolution to support QoS. Two scenarios are presented that can be envisaged for the introduction of new QoS based broadband radio access networks.
