Abstract

Equations on quasi-three-level end-pumped Q-switched Yb:YAG lasers are collected. The presented model is capable of dealing with more practical laser systems than previously published works on this subject as it allows for non-uniform temperature distribution in an end-pumped laser rod. Moreover, thermal analysis for an axially heated cylinder with thermally convective boundary at the periphery is performed to obtain temperature distribution along laser rod. To illustrate the utility of the collected equations, a diode end-pumped Q-switched Yb:YAG laser is examined. The results are compared with the former study. Output pulse energy reductions of about 21.7% and 14.5% under certain cooling conditions for single-pass pumping and double-pass pumping geometries are predicted, respectively.
