Abstract

Nature of nickel(II) chelates of thio-β-diketone and related amides and esters and their pyridine-type base adducts was investigated by the analysis of the equilibrium in solution, and electronic and PMR spectra. In some cases, especially in the chelates of ester derivatives, unexpected relationships were found between the stability constants ( β 2) of mother nickel(II) chelates and the equilibrium constants ( K) for the adduct formation. The fractions of unpaired spin in σ, π b, π ∗ orbitals of γ-picoline in the adduct were calculated from the values the contact shift observed. The anomalous relationship between β 2and K found in some cases may be related to the degree of the inclination of the fraction of unpaired spin to π ∗ orbital of γ-picoline.
