Abstract
Efficiency has been one of the dominant values in the field of public administration. By emphasising efficiency based on the market-driven forces, the US healthcare systems have caused several problems including such as a large number of uninsured people. In order to promote equity, the most promising solution to the current US healthcare crisis could be national health insurance. For the next national health policy debate, it is important to assign the value of access the highest priority. A properly designed national health insurance (NHI) program could be a prominent alternative to the current US healthcare crisis since it could promote both equity and efficiency in the nation's healthcare system.
