Abstract
Preparative reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to purify a composite sample of D&C Red No. 33. A number of contaminating impurities were isolated fromthe dye and the purified material was essentially free of residual aromatic amines. A comparison was made between purification by preparative HPLC and recrystallization.
