Abstract

The conference address by Thomas MacKay and the editorial comment which accompanied it were published in the June 1981 issue of Apex with the aim of stimulating discussion of this very controversial subject. This aim has been achieved and the first replies received are set out in the following pages. Further comments from readers for inclusion in future issues are welcome. An early response is advised for those wishing to be included in the March issue, at which time a follow‐up article by Mr. MacKay is to appear.
