Abstract
The predissociation reaction time from the A(1Au) state of acetylene has been measured by a pump-probe method. The H-atom signal was found to decay in 69 ns at V5K1, J′ = 2 (Eexcess = 1192.6 cm−1) and 38 ns at V6K1, J′ = 2 (Eexcess = 2168.3 cm−1) levels. These values are considered to be the upper bounds for the lifetime of a metastable doorway state for dissociation at these energies.
