Abstract
The transient response of Gaussian beam scattering from a layer of discrete random scatterers is examined for the case of a narrowband pulse. The scattered fields from the medium are calculated by using the analytical wave theory in conjunction with the distorted Born approximation. The model is used to generate results using the configuration for the TRMM satellite overlooking rain. The response of the medium is examined in terms of the different components of the received power for different look angles varying from nadir to 18/spl deg/.
