Abstract
Respiratory symptoms are frequently seen in pediatric HIV-infected patients. Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and lymphoid interstitial pneumonitis are the frequent causes of severe pulmonary symptoms, but many other disorders and infections also may occur. One must be familiar with the many possible causative agents to reach a timely diagnosis and begin therapy. Even so, morbidity and mortality remain high for the pediatric AIDS patient with pulmonary disease.
