Abstract

This entry examines the academic and scholarly publications by organizational communication scholars since the 1960s, beginning with an examination of early seminal books on the subject. Next we turn to the Library of Congress subject headings for organizational communication books and textbooks. However, the headings found (“Organizational communication” and “Communication in organizations”) also include a significant number of entries not related to what communication scholars view as “organizational communication.” The entry goes on to describe journals sponsored by US scholarly societies such as the National Communication Association (NCA), the International Communication Association (ICA), and regional communication associations, as well as Management Communication Quarterly (MCQ), which is considered to be the leading journal for organizational communication scholarship. We conclude with the listing of works chosen for the NCA Organizational Communication Division Awards.
