Abstract

Academy of Management Annual Meeting Proceedings includes abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the annual conference, plus 6-page abridged versions of the “Best Papers” accepted for inclusion in the program (approximately 10%). Papers published in the Proceedings are abridged because presenting papers at their full length could preclude subsequent journal publication. The paper "The Effect of Coping Strategies on Health and Commitment During a Hospital Consolidation" examines coping strategies as predictors of health complaints and organizational commitment among employees in a hospital undergoing consolidation. Measurement occurred at two points in time. Results indicated that positive reinterpretation associated with reductions, while venting associated with increases, in a composite measure of residualized depression and irritation. The paper "Relations of Affect and Control and Organizational Function" postulates that nature and structure of informal relations of affect and control within an organization are associated with functional status as a viable and stable social system. Results from testing longitudinal data were consistent with theory. Measures of positive affect and power relations at one period were found strongly associated with viability and survival one and two years later.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Vol. 1993, No. 1 Permissions Metrics in the past 12 months History Published online 13 December 2017 Published in print 1 August 1993 InformationCopyright of Academy of Management Journal is the property of Academy of Management and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder’s express written permission.
