Abstract
Abstract The need for the participation of psychologists in the delivery of health care has been felt in Nigeria in recent years. From available information it is clear that psychologists have made some contributions in different areas of health care. A survey conducted in all the twelve medical schools in the country revealed that ten psychologists were engaged in the training of physicians, delivery of care and research. All of them perceived their contributions as essential in the training of future doctors and thought that the medical school environment provided a good opportunity for research. But they also complained of status inequality with medically trained colleagues. In another survey conducted in all psychiatric establishments in the country only fifteen clinical psychologists were identified.
