Abstract

The present study investigated the influence of psychological and biological gender on touch avoidance. Additionally of interest was the relationship between touch avoidance with the communication trait unwillingness to communicate. Results revealed that males are more same‐sex touch avoidant but do not differ from females in opposite‐sex touch avoidance. Sex‐role differences existed for opposite‐sex touch avoidance. The results of this study support the importance of looking at psychological gender.
