Abstract
This article reviews various psychodynamic formulations of anxiety disorders of childhood. The early work of Johnson and Estes and the later contribution of Bowlby are considered a theoretical basis to the understanding of these disorders. Psychotherapeutic approaches also are considered, emphasizing the developmental level of the child and his or her familial context.
