Abstract

Psychic health and social health of the brazilian women’s olympic handball team The human health depends 80% of the satisfaction for the own life, in other words, the the modern man’s psychic health and social health have larger infl uence on him than his somatic health. In the sport, the conquests and the intense training loads take to growing concern with the athletes’ psychic health. It is affi rmed that the psychic health is an essential component of the general health, and that a disturbance or an unbalance in this can cart functional and biological alterations that are refl ected in the social health, committing the general health and the team’s income. The objective of this research was to determine the levels of the psychic health and social health of the researched group athletes. The group was composed by fi fteen athletes of the feminine olympic Brazilian selection of handball, participants of the Olympic Games of Athena in 2004. To determine the levels of the athletes’ psychic health the Kalinine methodology was used, that is based in the analysis of the typological peculiarities of the personality, detected through the following instruments: “Diagnostica Software GBYK-1”, “Neurochronometer NCTRFSN”, EYSENCK Questionnaire and HANYN-SPILBERGER Questionnaire. To determine the social Health of the group the Sociometric Method was used. In the research results, the athletes of the olympic Brazilian selection of handball presented high and very high levels of psychic health. The social health of the selection is not damaged. Conclusion: of the psychological point of view, the olympic Brazilian selection of handball was ready to compete in the Olympic Games in Athena.
