Abstract

Studies points toward the stress involving professionals in special education area due to working conditions. Stressing factors affect these professional, sometimes discouraging them, sometimes promoting their engagement in activities. Considering social attitude as an influential factor in the reality of inclusion, this research aims to investigating senses produced by psychologists in works involving this area, in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul. Methodologically, a qualitative study was carried own by means of life history techniques. The information analyses were performed under a historical-cultural perspective. The results point to a secondisation of choice for this professional field and the fragility experienced in the initial formation of psychologists. On the other hand, they reveal that continuing education, linked to the exchange of experiences, favored understanding of the special education proposal from an inclusive perspective, allowing the re-signification of individual cultures and resulting in new conditions of personal involvement and engagement in the area.
