Abstract

The storm of April 17 began 24 hours after a large active sunspot‐group had crossed the central meridian in latitude north 13°. The group first appeared on April 12 and developed rapidly in size. A red auroral display was seen on Mount Wilson on April 17 while this storm was in progress.A bright chromospheric eruption of intensity 3 began at 16h 47m GMT, April 21, in a spot‐group north 28°, east 60°. Starting at 16h 54m, H decreased 39 gammas in 21 minutes. The time of its recovery is uncertain because of a slight disturbance which lasted throughout the day. A very well‐marked radio fade‐out was observed at the Huancayo Magnetic Observatory, beginning at 16h 54m, with a complete fade‐out from 16h 56m to 17h 49m.
