Abstract
A prototype of a vertex detector with polystyrene scintillating fibres and cells with liquid scintillator using CCD readout has been studied. For the polystyrene fibres of 150 μm diameter the number of clusters per unit track length is n 0 = 3.17 mm −1 with a straight-line rms residual σ p ⋍ 70 μ m and a track impact parameter precision δ p ⋍ 35 μ m . For the detector with the cells with liquid scintillator n 0 is obtained to be 3.10 mm −1 and σ liq ⋍ 68 μ m, δ liq ⋍ 33 μ m . The two-track resolution is 110 μm.
