Abstract
An estimate of the proton lifetime is made through the inclusive decay p→e++anything. An assumption of smooth behavior of the amplitude connecting decay and scattering is employed. Coupling strengths are taken from theSU5 grand unified model along with the couplings of the pomeron with protons and antiprotons. The matrix element of the proton transition into three quarks, found previously by QCD sum rules, is also used. The proton lifetime is estimated to be ≅6.8·1030 y.
