Abstract

The reaction of metastable decomposing ions 1 to 5 are reported and discussed. The unimolecular decomposition pathways of these ions are explained in terms of mechanisms involving proton-bound complexes as intermediates. The results derived from labelled precursors together with thermochemical data indicate that the decompositions of these complexes are governed by the proton affinity of the neutral counterparts.
