Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic disease that requires a multidisciplinary approach. It has a big impact in terms of morbidity and mortality as well as healthcare costs. It is one of the main causes of mortality worldwide and accounts for 2% of emergencies attended to. COPD exacerbation has a high admission rate: around 40%. Management of exacerbations in emergency departments have implications not only on time-dependent care of the disease itself, but also on the prognosis. In addition to being aware of its seasonal variability and risk factors, this training update through clinical practice guidelines is fundamental in caring for patients who have COPD exacerbations.
