Abstract

EpidemiologyWith a worldwide prevalence rate of 50%, H. pylori is the most common bacterial infection in the world. Clinical manifestationsAlthough the majority of patients are asymptomatic, different symptoms and relevant pathologies may be caused by it, highlighting dyspepsia, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. In fact, H. pylori infection is the main cause of peptic ulcer disease and is an important cofactor in the development of gastric lymphoma and adenocarcinoma. Diagnosis and treatmentH. pylori eradication therapy allows the complete healing of peptic ulcer, which has meant a real revolution in the gastroenterology. The proper diagnosis methodology, treatment indications and the most appropriate therapeutic regimens for the eradication of bacteria are related in the present guidelines.
