Abstract

Chronic abdominal pain (CAP) is defined as intermittent or constant abdominal pain of at least 6 months duration. Etiology is diverse including both organic and non-organic causes. Main diagnostic goal is to distinguish between organic disease and functional disorder. In these sense, history is mandatory as well as physical examination. Unnecessary tests have to be avoided; in this way, complementary tests have to be focused on clinical suspicion.
