Abstract

IntroductionGastrointestinal polyposis syndromes are conditions characterized by the presence of multiple polyps in association with or without extraintestinal manifestations. ClassificationPolyposis sydromes can be classified in hereditary and non hereditary syndromes and based on its histology in adenomatous, hamartomatous and hyperlastic polyps. Colorectal cancerThese patients are at increased risk of developing colorectal cancer assuming 1% of all colorectal cancers and increased risk of cancer in other locations. DiagnosisRecognition and correct differential diagnosis of the different polyposis syndromes is essential due to the implications it will have for the patient and first degree relatives due to its hereditary nature.
