Abstract
Dysphagia a symptom defined as an abnormality in the process of swallowing. Aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition and dehydration are potentially life-threatening complications; thus, early diagnosis and adequate treatment are essential. The dysphagia of neurological origin tends to appear during the swallow of liquids. Many neurological disorders, both central nervous system and peripheral diseases, present with dysphagia. Clinical history and volume-viscosity swallow test (V-VST) are basics in the diagnosis. Instrumental diagnostic tests are required in selected cases.
