Abstract

The gradual loss of kidney function leads to adaptive and compensatory changes that make it possible to maintain homeostasis with glomerular filtration rates of down to 10-25ml/min. Under 10ml/min disorders arise in the internal medium and these have clinical consequences. It is therefore important to properly evaluate alterations in the water balance, sodium, potassium and acid-basic disorders in chronic kidney disease.
