Abstract

Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) are present in a large variety of infections. The prognosis of patients with infections by these germs largely depends on the initiation of the correct antibiotic treatment. The progressive increase in resistance in GNB worldwide to the different antibiotics at our disposal for their treatment has become a cause of concern and an additional complexity in establishing a correct empirical treatment. There is also a need for available protocols aimed at maximum optimisation of these treatments, bearing in mind the focus of infection, the environment of acquisition (hospital or community) and the local resistance of each centre for these bacteria.
