Abstract

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a clinical syndrome that encompasses upper genital tract infection (uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries), including any combination of endometriosis, salpingitis, pyosalpinx, oophoritis, tubular ovarian abscess, and pelvic peritonitis. A late diagnosis or inadequate treatment contribute to the development of infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain in women. This work addresses the key principles in the treatment of this disease.
