Abstract
Acute respiratory failure is a state or situation that occurs when pulmonary gas exchange fails, leading to inadequate oxygenation of the body. It is defined as a partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) level lower than 60mmHg at rest, at sea level, and when breathing ambient air. Given that it is a very common disease, it requires the creation of a diagnostic and treatment protocol that ensures a proper clinical approach.
