Abstract
Production of man-made fibers is increasing fast and with that the emission of toxic substances into the environment. Developments in the fiber industry have taken place at a rapid pace but it is necessary to point out that at many producing establishments the technological processes are still based on batch production, equipment capacity and spinning speeds are low, and measures to protect the environment against pollution with ventilation emissions and industrial effluent are inadequate. Fiber establishments discharge large quantities of water polluted with noxious substances like zinc, sulfuric acid, sulfates, caprolactam, metanol, etc. into natural water bodies and emit pollutants like carbon disulfide and hydrogen sulfide into the atmosphere.
