Abstract

In this research paper, wavelet transform based technique has been used for fault detection and faulty phase identification in a series capacitor compensated double circuit transmission line (SCCDCTL). The proposed technique has been extensively tested using the MATLAB/SIMULINK test system of a SCCDCTL. The fault data in the current signals of both circuits has been captured using wavelet transform, which aspires at fault detection and identifying the faulty phase. Capability of the proposed technique is evaluated under a wide variation of fault parameters such as fault type, fault inception time, fault location, fault resistance and ground resistance. The main benefit of the proposed technique is that it offers primary protection to the complete transmission line length using single terminal fault current data only. The simulation results of the wavelet transform based proposed technique specifies that it correctly detects the fault and identify the faulty phase.
