Abstract

A successful prosthetic management of a young patient of carcinoma of the palate and maxilla has been presented. Facial esthetics, speech, swallowing and mastication are as near normal as prior to undertaking surgery. The prosthesis is made as light as possible and should be nonirritating. It is made either in cold or hot cure acrylic resins (Polymethyl methacrylate). The frequent minor adjustments of the prosthesis and follow up are very important to eliminate any source of irritation to the operated area. A pre-operative assessment and a combined effort of the disciplines of oto-rhinolaryngology and Dental Surgery yielded a very satisfactory result and provided the best avilable health care to the patient.
