Abstract

1. 1. Prostaglandin E 1 in relatively large pharmacological doses caused a significant inhibition ( P < 0.01) of lysine accumulation in mucosal strips isolated from rat, rabbit and turtle intestines. 2. 2. Unidirectional lysine influx across the rabbit and turtle small intestines was significantly reduced ( P < 0.001) by the presence of PGE 1 in the preincubation solution. 3. 3. The cell water content and the cell volume were not altered by preincubating the intestinal tissues with PGE 1 in the three animal species.
